Pee Wee General Information

Pee Wee Football - Get in the Game!

Many have said that there is nothing better than Pee Wee football. It is a great experience for the player and their family.

Pee Wee football combines some of the introductory & fun components of the Atom program with some of the competitive aspects of higher levels of football to create a one-of-a-kind football experience.

Pee Wee football is open to boys and girls.

Athletes eligible to play Pee Wee football must be 11 or 12 years old in this calendar year. If the player turns 13 this calendar year then he / she must register for Bantam football through one of Red Deer's three high schools (LTCHS, Notre Dame and Hunting Hills).

Pee Wee players will be evaluated by the RDMF coaching staffs prior to the start of the season. Following the evaluations, players will be drafted to the Red Deer Hornets or Red Deer Steelers. The purpose of the draft is to create two balanced team rosters that will compete at a high level within the Central Pee Wee Football League.

The Hornets and Steelers practice approximately 3-4 times per week and play one league game each Saturday. There is a small amount of travel involved as each team must travel to other Central Alberta communities 3 or 4 times during the regular season. Travel arrangements are the responsibility of each family.

Home games are played at Great Chief Park in Red Deer. Great Chief Park is a wonderful facility to enjoy a game of Pee Wee football. Bring your noise makers and banners and enjoy a game under the warmth of the Alberta autumn sun.

Unlike most other sports, football is a game that relies on all 12 players on the field working together at the same time to execute a play. Therefore, practice time is extremely important for the development of each player and for the development of the team. Each player / family will be expected to display the level of commitment necessary to ensure personal and team success.

Football is a wonderful sport that teaches many valuable life lessons. A football player will learn about team work, commitment, giving their best effort, perseverance and many other important qualities. Unlike our society today that values instant gratification, football is a game that values commitment over time to achieve team and personal satisfaction and success.
